X-Hive/Docato DITA Starter Kit

X-Hive/Docato is a content management system, specifically developed for technical documentation. It is a component-based content management solution, which manages document components rather than whole documents. Managing documentation or other content at a document level is necessary, but not always sufficient, especially if you want to re-use existing content as much as possible for efficiency reasons.

The key to successful re-use of content is to manage content at a granular level where components of content can be shared, reviewed, updated, or combined together and compiled into different aggregations and collections. Each component is separately edited and re-used, and workflow requirements are enforced on each component. Each component has its own lifecycle and properties. The component-based content management system provides a single point of access to these components, presenting content both in traditional documents format for viewing and printing, and in granular documents format.

The benefits of re-use are soon realized: a revision is made once to the source content and automatically extended to all documents that use that content.

X-Hive/Docato in combination with the DITA package (see below) provides a powerful Starter Kit to enable you to start working on your topic-oriented documentation from day one. With this combination you have the flexibility and extensibility of an XML based content management system, and a predefined set-up, to manage your quickly changing requirements over time.
